Note: | Historical: Edwin Emerson (A.B. 1891) was in Troop K of the Rough Riders. He compiled these slides as a memorial presentation concerning the Rough Riders. General: Title from Edwin Emerson's typescript list. Slides are arranged according to Emerson's list. Included in the collection are nine slides with hand-written titles for different sections (e.g., "Remember the Maine!"); these slides have been placed in the proper order in the sequence but have not been digitized. Most slides are marked in pencil with a number and/or letter designation and title corresponding to the list. When the slide title differs from the list title, both have been included. Those slides misnumbered, without a number or title designation, or with a title designation that does not appear on the list have been placed in the sequence at the cataloger's discretion. Slide call numbers are derived from the numbers written on the individual slides. These numbers often include letter designations and differ from the sequence number given on Emerson's typescript list. Emerson's sequence number has been included in the catalog record for the individual slides. Collection lacks slides 32, 63, and 115 (sequence numbers 41, 74, and 132, respectively). Collection also contains Emerson's ten-page typescript list of slides, title cards for slides, and other loose papers. Access to original material is restricted because of condition. Consultation requires permission of the collection curator. Preferred citation for publication: Edwin Emerson Rough Rider Lantern Slides (Roosevelt R560.3.Em3). Theodore Roosevelt Collection, Harvard College Library. Provenance: Given by Edwin Emerson, 1958 November. Production: Cataloging and imaging funded by the Ratus Lee Kelly Fund for Houghton Library. |
